Our chimney sweeping process

number one

Dust sheets are laid to protect all carpets and flooring, the hearth is then covered and taped.

number two

The brush and vacuum is then used to clean the flue and remaining soot is then cleaned away.

number three

A "Smoke Evacuation Test" is then carried out to ensure that the appliance is running correctly.

number four

An insurance recognised certificate is issued with every sweep.

Why have your chimney swept?

Over a period of time, soot builds up within your chimney or lining.

This causes a complete or partial blockage which reduces the draw and prevents the smoke from escaping out the top of the chimney.

This can lead to an inefficient fire or smoke entering into your room, or a fire starting in the chimney.

Causes and preventative measures

Burning unseasoned wood will produce a tar build up in your chimney which is difficult to remove and can cause chimney fires.

You must ensure your wood has moisture content less than 20%.

If you install a stove yourself you will need an inspector from Building Control to inspect the installation which can cost in the region of £300.00. If you do not have the necessary consent or certificate this could invalidate your buildings insurance and you could also be fined.

Carbon monoxide

Carbon monoxide alarm is now compulsory and is fitted with each installation.
